Abstract

This section introduces the major indications for gastrectomy, including gastric cancer and benign etiologies such as peptic ulcer disease. The evaluation, staging, and treatment of gastric adenocarcinoma are described in detail. The technique of various types of gastrectomy is discussed, as are the most common postoperative complications of these operations, including anastomotic leak. A classic case of gastric cancer is described and questions are provided for review.
