Abstract
This chapter introduces the major indications for adrenalectomy, including aldosteronoma, cortisol-producing adenoma, pheochromocytoma, adrenocortical carcinoma, incidentaloma, and adrenal metastases. The techniques of open adrenalectomy, laparoscopic transabdominal adrenalectomy, and laparoscopic retroperitoneal adrenalectomy are discussed. The most common postoperative complications for different indications of adrenalectomy are also discussed, specifically acute steroid insufficiency and acute hypertensive crisis. A classic case of pheochromocytoma is described and questions are provided for review.
