Book cover Guide to Psychological Assessment with Asians

Abstract

Numerous self-report and interview assessment tools have been developed to assess various symptoms of eating disorders (EDs). This chapter reviews the most frequently used ED assessments that have been used with Asian American samples, as well as non-English versions available for Asian American participants or Asian participants in cross-national studies that prefer to respond to interviews and questionnaires in their language of origin. Discussions of additional considerations when assessing Asian Americans are also included in the chapter, including cultural and individual factors, such as the role of family, acculturation, experiences with discrimination, perfectionism, etc., that may influence the assessment of disordered eating behaviors and attitudes in Asian Americans.
