Abstract
Muscular injury of the posterior lower leg can be a common condition seen in certain populations including pediatrics, females, seniors, and previously injured/disabled individuals. These groups are at risk for developing these types of injuries due to growth, tendon strains, muscular changes, hormonal imbalances, and altered biomechanics. Due to the varied pathologies causing posterior leg pain in these groups, diagnosis and treatment paradigms can often be complex. This chapter reviews some of the most common posterior leg conditions seen in these varied populations and proposes treatment recommendations.
