Abstract

Romania has adopted a comprehensive system of certification of geographical designations of traditional foods, which combines requirements for location of origin with quality and processing characteristics that the foods must comply with. This provides value to the traditional producers, who have therefore been active in taking the opportunity, with over 200 products certified since 2008. The broad terms of this system are described in this chapter that also presents a list of the most relevant Romanian traditional products and provides some examples in the dairy and bakery sectors.
