LSD: Problems Connected with Its Use, Misuse, and Abuse in the United States

  • Max Rinkel

Abstract

Today I would like to talk about the use, misuse, and abuse of the mind-altering, “consciousness-expanding” drugs, and particularly about the most controversial and powerful of them all — LSD — which I introduced in this country. These substances have many designations — dysleptic, hallucinogenic, psychotomimetic, psychotoxic, and even mysticomimetic. But the term that appears to have captivated the wider public is “psychedelic,” meaning “mind-manifesting,” the term coined by Humphry Osmond, perhaps because it has both a professional and a poetic ring.
