Abstract
Neurons of mammalian sympathetic ganglia cultivated in vitro in suitable media survive, and their severed axons regrow (Matsumoto, 1920; see Murray, 1965 and Chamley, Mark, Campbell & Burnstock, 1972). Normal synthesis, storage, axonal flow, uptake and release of NA occur in these neurons; this has been demonstrated with fluorescence histochemistry, biochemistry and autoradiography (Goldstein, 1967; Sano, Odake & Yonezawa, 1967; Chamley, Mark, Campbell & Burnstock, 1972, Kopin & Silberstein, 1972). Cultured adrenergic neurons respond to nicotinic drugs (Larrabee, 1970).
