  • Chapter
Adrenergic Neurons

Abstract

The object of this monograph is to present an overall multi-disciplinary picture of the mammalian peripheral adrenergic neuron and of adrenergic neuroeffector transmission. Readers are referred to reviews by leading workers for further discussion on adrenergic physiology, biochemistry, pharmacology and morphology.* In addition, some topics have been included which have not been reviewed recently, such as the organization and development of adrenergic nerves. A discussion of the heterogeneity of peripheral adrenergic neurons, their functional requirements and the factors which affect them is included in the last section and some speculations made concerning the functional organization of the sympatho-adrenal system.
