Abstract
When supertuning an engine we must always have a well-defined goal in mind. Nine times out of ten the amateur tuner starts with the vague aim of extracting more power just short of mechanical disaster. Such a policy often destroys the whole roadworthiness of the car. What use on the modern highway, especially in Britain, is a useful power curve that only begins at 4000 r.p.m. and makes you grab for the gear lever when the speed drops to 4500 r.p.m.
