Abstract

In the previous chapters we have been concerned with the properties of microorganisms: their structure, biochemistry and genetics, and the variety of different types. This chapter is different in that we are concerned with the ways in which we can make use of microorganisms.

  • V. Moses and R.E. Cape (1991) Biotechnology: The Science and the Business. Harwood Academic Publishers, London — a very wide-ranging account of biotechnology with a lot of emphasis on future possibilities. It also shows how the non-scientific considerations of costs, benefits, investment, patents and government regulations affect the biotechnologist.
