Abstract

In the previous sections published information on the geochemistry, isotope systematics, mineralogy and metallogeny of the Pennine orefields has been reviewed and new information on the geophysics, tectonic history and the geochemistry of igneous rocks and shales has been presented. Here we attempt to use these different sources of evidence to propose a detailed metallogenic model that accounts for Pennine-style mineralisation in relation to the structural and stratigraphic evolution of the region. Our starting points are (1) the suggestion of Dunham that the Pennine mineralisation represents a sub-type of the Mississippi Valley type (MVT) genus of ore deposits and (2) the basinal brine models, originally proposed by White (1958), for such deposits.
