Method of Approximate Second Quantization

  • Chapter
Methods in the Quantum Theory of Magnetism

Abstract

One of the methods of calculating the equilibrium properties of matter is to determine the thermodynamic functions in terms of the partition functions. To do this, it is necessary to know the energy spectrum of the system. The problem of the exact determination of the spectrum of a strongly magnetic substance is very complex and, therefore, we shall consider here a simple method for the approximate determination of the lower part of the energy spectrum or, in other words, a method for the determination of the weakly excited states of a system.
