Abstract
The application of odontology, odontostomatology or dentistry to forensic problems has been well recognized for nearly half a century. Whichever terminology is used, the subject is defined as ‘that branch of forensic medicine which, in the interests of justice, deals with the proper evaluation and presentation of the dental findings’ [1]. It requires a trained dental expert to handle and examine any dental evidence with the degree of accuracy that law enforcement authorities and the legal profession expect and to apply his or her additional knowledge and experience to objectives which differ considerably from conventional dental education and the routine pursuit of dental practice [2].
