Abstract
Specimens of liver submitted for analysis may be of various types, including percutaneous Menghini or Tru-Cut needle biopsies, transjugular biopsies when there is a bleeding diathesis (often as a consequence of the liver disease present), wedge biopsy taken at laparotomy and partial hepatectomy specimens. Fresh liver specimens may be received when a metabolic defect is suspected so that, for example, its copper or iron content can be measured and portions can be frozen for other biochemical analyses.
