Abstract
Patients’ visitors are in law ‘lawful visitors’ being expressly or impliedly allowed to enter the premises. The nurse in charge of a ward acts on the managers’ behalf and can exercise their lawful right to exclude a person from the premises. Subject to the rules of the hospital, that nurse will have the authority to decide how many visitors are permitted, and for how long.
