Abstract
Inadequate, excessive or inappropriate nutrition is a universal phenomenon. Medical problems arise as a consequence of both under-nutrition and over-nutrition. This chapter is primarily concerned with the recognition, consequences and causes of under-nutrition. Diseases associated with excessive food intake are discussed in more detail in Chapter 7.
