Identifying and learning interpersonal skills

Abstract

The need for interpersonal skills in health professionals is clear and easily articulated; we need them in order to get on with others and to help them. As Martin Buber (1958) at length points out: we exist as selves-in-relation; we need other people as much as they need us. Not to be interpersonally skilled as a health care professional is to be ineffective as a health care professional. If you did not believe that interpersonal skills are important, it is doubtful that you would be reading this book.
