Abstract
In the 1950s, McGregor developed two theories to describe the underlying beliefs about the nature of humans that influence managers in the strategies they adopt. He thought managers react to the world through their own perception of it. The two contrasting sets of assumptions were seized upon by his readers as if there was no middle path. This was in contrast to McGregor’s own views.
