Abstract

Constipation is not a disease entity, but rather a symptom which can be associated with a wide range of conditions. But most frequently, chronic or long-term constipation is the result of an acute event (again due to any number of possible causes) which results in temporary constipation. This symptom is included in this book because of its relatively common occurrence and the concern it can cause both children and their parents. Early diagnosis of the cause followed by appropriate treatment is vital for the wellbeing of the whole family.
