Abstract

A manometer is an instrument for measuring pressures of gases and vapors. Pressure is force per unit area. The SI unit of pressure, with the symbol ‘Pa’, is the pascal, which is a newton per square meter. In this chapter, an ‘absolute manometer’ is one which operates as a ‘primary’ instrument; that is, it is constructed to operate so that the pressure can be evaluated directly in the base units of mass, length and time.
