Abstract

The co-ordinated synthesis of cell constituents by a micro-organism leads to growth and reproduction and ultimately to the formation of a culture or colony of micro-organisms. This chapter describes some of the biochemical events that take place during growth and reproduction of micro-organisms, and at the same time deals with factors that affect survival of organisms.
