Abstract
Our group’s current connection with the field of coordination is somewhat tenuous, as attested by almost any one of our publications, the discussion section being liberally sprinkled with “it appears that the coordination number is six,” “probably the extracted entity contains coordinated extractant dimers,” and similar expressions which confess to factual ignorance but reaffirm an abiding faith in the principles of coordination chemistry. This faith in the principles of coordination chemistry, coupled with a long-held interest in the rare earths, has led to a research program encompassing portions of the fields of interest of two outstanding University of Illinois research chemists, Prof. John C. Bailar, Jr. and Prof. B. S. Hopkins.
Work performed under the auspices of the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission.
