Abstract

When you really think about it, it is amazing that two fairly short chapters (Chapters 8 and 9) can be written to describe the general topic of “treatment programs.” I am faced with the task of offering some thoughts that apply to inpatient and outpatient therapies, hospital-based and free-standing facilities, and to treatments that help people who are having problems with a wide variety of drugs. How is it possible to state general rules that apply to helping marijuana smokers, alcoholics, and people whose problems involve heroin or cocaine?
