Abstract
If some of the leading British and American writers on intelligence, such as Burt,3 R. B. Cattell,4 Guilford,8 McNemar13 and Hunt12 were asked for their views on intelligence tests, there would be a wide range of disagreement. All I can hope to do is point to certain developments that have been apparent over the past thirty years or so, and then restate what seems to me the position of the majority of middle-of-the-road psychologists.
