Abstract
Recently medical science has learned much about the use of medications, or drugs, in the treatment of anxiety disorders. Not so long ago people with anxiety disease were simply given sedatives. Usually barbiturates were prescribed for almost any kind of nervous disorder. These drugs produced a calming effect, often sleepiness, but did not treat the anxiety disease itself. They had the additional hazard of leading to addiction; people needed to use more and more to get the same relief.
Taking drugs can become a habit; so can avoiding drugs. Both can be injurious to your health.
