Phenomenological Observations During Solid Reactions

  • Conference paper
Kinetics of Reactions in Ionic Systems

Part of the book series: Materials Science Research ((MSR))

Abstract

Research is presented on the characteristics of refractory oxide powders used in sintering processes. Oxide powder characterization studies using electron microscopy and selected-area electron diffraction are described. The morphological and crystallographic features of fine powders are examined, as are surface conditions and the effects of impurities. The nature and extent of precursor-oxide orientation relationships and the decomposition and recrystallization stages in conversion to the requisite form of the oxide are considered. Work on decomposition, growth, and sintering features which might be relevant to sintering and hot-pressing processes is also discussed.
