Abstract
A short discussion is given of the connection between low temperature physics and Fermi surface phenomena. The obvious importance of the Fermi surface in all considerations of transport phenomena is suggested. Advances in the art of Fermi surface investigations have been closely tied to advances in low temperature techniques. The Fermi surface symposium has been designed to summarize usefully the present state of knowledge, both experimental and theoretical, of the Fermi surface, and to describe briefly two additional interesting new experiments.
