Abstract
When the brain is exhausted it becomes difficult to concentrate and making a simple decision may seem like a big problem. If the feeling of tiredness is either neglected or suppressed by drinking alcohol or smoking cigarettes we may feel relieved but soon reach a point of diminishing returns. Thinking becomes muddled and if we continue to push ourselves we either become edgy and lose our temper or lose all perspective and feel completely hopeless. When feeling low, we may withdraw from social interaction. Sometimes people become moody and oversensitive to criticism.
