Abstract
One of the fundamental vortex systems that will be used in the calculation of flow past monoplane wings is the usual horseshoe vortex. It consists of a segment of a bound vortex of span l 0 and two semi-infinite vortex filaments arising at the ends of the bound vortex and extending in the direction of the undisturbed flow U0 (Fig. 7.1). All vortices of this system have a constant strength Γ+ which can be expressed by the relation
