Abstract
To provide satisfactory handling characteristics with a modern high performance aeroplane an autostabiliser is a necessity. Since aerodynamic parameters vary widely over the flight regime it is not usually possible to obtain satisfactory augmentation of the natural aeroplane stability without some alteration in the controller parameters. It is desirable both from the point of view of the pilot and also for convenience in the design of automatic control facilities that the demand response of the aeroplane be made to have a specified, or model, form over the entire flight envelope. To do this the controller parameters must vary to the same extent as those for the aeroplane.
