Abstract

Paul’s grandmother, Ba Thi Tu, had been cooking for the Bar Mitzvah for days alongside her daughter, Josephine Tu Steinman. The menu included veal with black mushroom sauce, Vietnamese meatballs, beef chow fun, chicken and cashew nuts, rice noodles, and other Oriental delicacies. A dish calling for pork had to be eliminated, along with shellfish dishes, because they were not kosher.
