Abstract
In our journey through the world of elementary particles we have met many different types of particles: muons, pions, quarks, preons, superparticles, and technicolor particles, to name only a few. We have also seen that the breakthrough in unifying the fundamental fields of nature was the realization that they had to be gauge theories. Furthermore, we have looked at the attempts that have been made using higher dimensions, strings, and other strange concepts, to bring these fields and particles together into a supertheory.
