Abstract

The preceding chapter explored some basic operational approaches to science—the origin and refinement of ideas, the design and execution of experiments, the analysis and presentation of results—but a second principal ingredient of success must be explored early in any examination of scientists. This is the less structured area of interpersonal relationships in conducting science, particularly the delicate critical steps in building and managing a good research team.
