Abstract
During the next two decades, the baby boom’s parents will die and boomers will begin to head extended families. More of the boomers’ friends will die, reminding them of their own mortality, their children will grow up and have children, and many boomers will succumb to chronic illness. These changes will challenge whatever peace of mind free agents achieved in middle age. It will create a psychological shock wave that will consume free agents and bring a new perspective to Americans. Free agents will begin an earnest search for the meaning of their life. The aging of free agents will bring a spiritual renewal to the United States in the twenty first century.
