Abstract
“Healing through meeting” is a phrase that was first introduced by Martin Buber and has subsequently been elaborated by Maurice Friedman. In this age of medical technology and advanced pharmacology the word “healing” has come to mean that which occurs when a therapeutic technique acts to reverse a particular pattern of illness. “Healing through meeting” emphasizes the healing that emanates from the healing partnership. When the patient is accepted as a partner, it is an act of confirmation. This act of confirmation arises from being present for the other, but does not imply that there is full mutuality within the partnership.
