Abstract

Quantum electrodynamics is a great theory. Some would say it is our only theory in the realm of elementary particle physics, and indeed it has served as the model for all other field theories including the original suggestion of Yukawa for nuclear forces. Others would say that it is no more than a vestige of the dark ages with its atavistic superstructure of local fields and the canonical quantization prescription.
