Abstract

The purpose of my talk today is to consider parameters of the polydiagnostic model that contribute to greater reliability and validity of diagnostic decisions. In so doing, I will mention briefly the particular data that we have used to examine these issues empirically; however, it is not the empirical results that I plan to discuss. The point that I would emphasize, instead, is that psychometric test theory has implications for reliability and validity issues related to psychiatric diagnosis. Ultimately, empirical studies can be used to corroborate conclusions drawn from test theory.
