The Mössbauer Effect in Sn119 Nuclei, Attempt to Observe the Effect in Pr141

Abstract

A large amount of work has been devoted to the study of the Mössbauer effect in various tin compounds. However, the experimental results of a number of authors on various compounds are widely different. For example, in /1–5/, clearly resolved quadrupole splitting was found in white tin, while other papers /6, 7, 8/ give a value several times less for the upper limit of this quantity. The conclusions of /5/ seem rather strange in saying that there is absolutely no electric field gradient (quadrupole splitting) at the tin nuclei in the tetragonal SnO2 lattice.
