Abstract
The probability of resonance absorption f’ of the 23.8 KeV Γ-quanta was measured in monocrystalline platelets of white metallic tin, cut out in various crystallographic planes. A large anisotropy effect was found which did not change on going from a temperature of 293°K to a temperature of 77°K. The ratio of the f’ values obtained in the different platelets is f’ 100 :f’ 101 :f’ 001 f’ polycryst. — 1 :0.95:0.71:0.80. The differences found in the positions of the absorption maxima and the asymmetry of the absorption lines is explained by the quadrupole splitting of the excited level of the Sn119 nucleus in the ß-Sn crystal.
