Abstract
The principal laws governing the secondary processes taking place on bombarding a metal with positive ions at high target temperatures have not been studied very extensively. In addition to this, such work as has been done has been carried out without any quantitative checking of the state of the target surface. In this chapter we shall present the results of some investigations into secondary-ionic processes at high target temperatures. The state of the surface of the incandescent metals is checked as necessary by reference to the corresponding work function.
