Abstract

Many people are aware that osteopathy and chiropractic are similar therapies. In fact, the founder of chiropractic, Daniel D Palmer, originally trained with the founder of osteopathy, Andrew Taylor Still. In modern times, the two professions remain so comparable that a significant proportion of textbooks and journals are relevant to both. As the effects of osteopathic and chiropractic treatment are similar, they will be considered together. The term ‘manipulative therapy’ will be used to refer to both osteopathy and chiropractic.
