Abstract

I believe that when it comes to the subject of ageing, we are about to live in more interesting times than the colour grey might suggest. In fact, red and black would be more to the point. What will be the colour of the ink at the bottom of society’s balance sheet when ageing populations make unprecedented demands on our national resources in the coming decades? Particularly in our Third World, where still another social burden could finally strangle the crucial process of development?
