Abstract

Hong Kong is one of the most densely populated places in the world. The present population of Hong Kong is estimated to be approximately 5.9 million people. Its population in mid-1990 included 748 700 people aged 60 and over (12.6%), a figure which is expected to rise to 974 500 in mid-2000 (15.1%).
