University of Denver Institute of Gerontology Empowerment Programme
  • Enid Opal Cox

Abstract

The University of Denver Institute of Gerontology serves as a focal point of research (including social service demonstration projects), training and community service within the University of Denver. One of the key programmes of the Institute is its focus on the development of empowerment oriented services for the elderly and their families. The social work faculty at the University of Denver School of Social Work has articulated a model of empowerment oriented practice with the elderly, and the Institute has initiated a number of projects within the Denver metropolitan area which demonstrate empowerment oriented practice approaches. Additionally, the Institute provides training to agency staff to enable them to assess their programmes with respect to empowerment orientation.
