Abstract
The chances are much better than fifty-fifty that any arts organization starting out to apply for its first grant, or even its second or third, is not ready for it. Program directors in foundations, corporations, and government agencies, when asked about the most common failings of applicants, invariably cite poor organization and general lack of preparation.
