Stable Modified Electrodes for Use in Amperometric Detectors in Flow Systems

Abstract

Practical analytical applications of modified electrodes, particularly examples that are based on mediated reactions, have been slow to emerge. Only a few attempts, other than our work which is described herein, to apply such electrodes to flow systems have been reported. Baldwin and co-workers used an electrode that was prepared by mixing cobalt phthalacyanine with carbon paste for the determination of hydrazine1 and some sulfhydryl compounds2 by high performance liquid chromatography with amperometric detection. Although the results were promising, the day-to-day stability without mechanically renewing the surface was somewhat limited.
