Abstract

In this paper some calculations are described for surface and bulk magnetic excitations in magnetic semiconductors. We consider semi-infinite structures, thin films, multilayers, and superlattices. Results have been deduced for the excitation frequencies and, in some cases, for the magnetic Green’s functions. Applications to light scattering are discussed. Some of the magnetic semiconductors of interest include europium chalcogenides (such as EuO and EuTe), spinels (such as CdCr2 S4 and CdCr4 Se4), other semiconductor materials with large single-ion anisotropy isuch as CrBr3), and diluted magnetic semiconductors (DMS) in their ordered phase (such as Cd1-x Mnx Te with Mn concentration x < 0.17). Other magnetic semiconductors werexlisted, for example, in the book by Nagaev.1 The calculations are presented here only in outline; details will be given elsewhere.
