Abstract

The aim of this text is to review briefly some theoretical ideas developed in the physics of the (quasi) 1d metals. The restriction to “metals” means here that we shall consider the system of extended (although tightly-bound) electrons which interact weakly with phonons and also one with another. At the outset such a system is described in terms of large energy scales such as the electron band width 4t, the phonon Debye frequency ωD, and the plasma frequency ωO. Owing to weak interactions the smaller and smaller energies appear in the course of the analysis. In this sense the present approach can be viewed as a “first principle” determination of the parameters usually used in the phenomenological description of the low frequency (or temperature) behaviour of the metallic 1d systems.
