Abstract

Sources of referral are as diverse as the client groups served. If an occupational therapist is working in a hospital, referrals are usually made by medical staff. A home assessment may not have been specifically requested on referral of the patient to occupational therapy, but if during the course of assessment it is felt that a visit to the patient’s home is necessary, a referral may not be required. If the occupational therapist is employed in the community however, medical personnel are just one of the many sources of referral.
