Abstract
A wide variety of infectious agents may cause lymphadenopathy and only the most common will be considered here. Amongst these are the viral lymphadenopathies which, since they produce relatively similar histological appearances in lymph nodes, are conveniently considered as a group. A number of non-viral infectious lymphadenopathies are characterized by granulomatous inflammation and this is also true of some non-infectious conditions. In practical terms the histopathologist is faced with the differential diagnosis of granulomatous inflammation in the lymph node biopsy and for this reason most types of granulomatous inflammation, whether due to infection or not, are considered in this chapter.
